Getting to the information
Accessibility
Most people reading this site are doing it tired, on a phone, in a hospital corridor. A good many are older, or have low vision, or use a screen reader. That is the ordinary case here, not the edge case.
What we are aiming at
WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the target we build to, and we have not had the site independently audited against it, so we are not going to claim we have met it. Below is what is actually true today.
What is in place
- Every page works by keyboard alone, and the element you are on is visibly outlined.
- Text is set at a size meant to be read rather than admired, and the page reflows when you zoom instead of cutting off.
- The layout is built from real headings and landmarks, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure.
- Every control you can tap is large enough to hit, including on a phone.
- Form errors are announced rather than only shown in color, and every field has a label that stays visible.
- Video in the header is decorative, silent, and carries no information you need. It respects a reduced-motion setting.
Gaps we know about
Listed because a site that claims to have none is either unaudited or not telling the truth.
- Color contrast over the moving header image has not been measured frame by frame. Text there carries a shadow and a scrim, but a bright frame can still reduce contrast below where we want it.
- The site has not been tested end to end with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver. It has been built to standards, which is not the same as verified against real assistive technology.
- Some guides are long. We are working on making them easier to skim by structure rather than by scrolling.
If something here does not work for you
Tell us and we will fix it, and in the meantime we will get you the information a different way. You should never have to fight a website to find out how to care for your parent. Call and a person will simply walk you through it.
